Description
Step into the heart of the Scottish Borders this Autumn and Winter with a visit to the magnificent Walled Garden at Floors Castle, Kelso. Considered by many to be the highlight of their visit, this 4-acre garden blends history, beauty, and tranquillity in one unforgettable setting. Originally designed as a Victorian Kitchen Garden, the Walled Garden remains one of the finest examples of its kind in Scotland. Inside its sheltering walls, you’ll find both heritage and innovation: abundant fruit trees, seasonal plantings, and a layout that celebrates both productivity and charm. The formal Millennium Garden, created within the Walled Garden, adds an extra layer of elegance with its French-style parterre and a charming summerhouse known as “Queen’s House” after Queen Victoria visited for tea here in 1867. In Autumn, the garden glows with rich colours, crisp air, and the changing textures of late-season planting. Winter reveals the garden’s structure at its most striking, with sculptural borders, heritage trees, and the peaceful quiet of nature at rest. Whether you’re a keen gardener, a lover of history, or simply in search of fresh air and inspiration, the Walled Garden offers something special in every season. Your ticket includes entry to the Walled Garden at your leisure, giving you plenty of time to stroll, explore, and unwind. Families will find space for children to enjoy freedom outdoors, with highlights including a zip wire to keep little ones entertained. Meanwhile, adults can take in the seasonal displays or simply enjoy the calm of the garden in the quieter months. To warm up after your walk, visit the Terrace Café, where you can relax with delicious hot food, homemade cakes, and freshly brewed drinks made with local ingredients. Alternatively, grab a takeaway coffee and continue your adventure. Don’t miss a stop at The Apple Shed, a beautifully curated shop bursting with inspiration for your home, garden, and pantry. From artisan produce to thoughtful gifts, it’s the perfect place to take a little bit of Floors Castle home with you. Please note that during the Winter season, the Castle and the Grounds are closed to the public. However, the Walled Garden, Apple Shed, and Terrace Café remain open seven days a week from 10:30 AM to 4:00 PM, with the last entry to the Walled Garden at 3:00 PM.
