Best Golf in Edinburgh

Local Recommendations from our My Guide Edinburgh team

Edinburgh and the Lothians are home to over 70 golf courses. With a rich history and varied offering of Links, Parkland, and Hilly courses, there is no shortage of excuses or opportunities to indulge in a game of golf in or around Edinburgh.

St. Andrews is widely regarded as the home of golf, but Edinburgh and the Lothians can stake some claim to that title also. Supposedly the original rules of the game were drawn up on Leith Links, whilst Musselburgh Old Course declares itself as the oldest playing golf course in the world. There are several Links courses in the area, two of which have hosted the Open Championship; Musselburgh and Muirfield (which has been confirmed once more as the venue for the 2013 event). If you are staying in the city, there are a multitude of options at your fingertips, but if you so desire, there is also wonderful golf further afield yet still quite near to Edinburgh. A private car is often the easiest way to reach the more remote locations, many of which are a simple 30 minute drive outside of the city.
