Description

Depart from Edinburgh Your journey begins on Edinburgh’s historic Royal Mile, where you’ll board a comfortable mini-coach and set off into Scotland’s breathtaking countryside. Prepare for a full day of rich history, sweeping landscapes, and the unforgettable locations that helped bring Outlander to life. Culross: Step Back in Time to Cranesmuir Your first stop is the charming village of Culross, instantly recognisable to Outlander fans as the fictional town of Cranesmuir in seasons one and two—and even featured in the upcoming prequel Blood of My Blood. With its cobbled lanes, 17th-century buildings, Culross Palace, and the Mercat Cross, this beautifully preserved village feels like stepping straight onto the set. Doune Castle: More Than Castle Leoch Continue to the imposing Doune Castle, known in the series as Castle Leoch, stronghold of Clan MacKenzie. This 14th-century fortress also starred in Game of Thrones and Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Explore its grand hall, wander its towers, and admire sweeping views of the River Teith from the castle ramparts. Linlithgow: Where History Meets Elegance Arrive in Linlithgow, home to the magnificent palace whose atmospheric ruins helped inspire the Wentworth Prison scenes. Stroll through centuries-old courtyards, enjoy stunning views across Linlithgow Loch, and take in the royal history that surrounds you. This is also where you’ll pause for a relaxing lunch break. Midhope Castle: Jamie’s Beloved Lallybroch Next, visit Midhope Castle—the iconic exterior of Lallybroch, Jamie Fraser’s treasured family home. Though the interior isn’t open to visitors, exploring the grounds offers a powerful connection to some of the series’ most emotional moments. Please note that access depends on filming schedules, so on some occasions it may not be possible to visit. Hopetoun House: Aristocratic Grandeur and Outlander Magic Your final major stop is the spectacular Hopetoun House, a masterpiece of Scottish baroque architecture. Used extensively throughout Outlander, it appears as the Duke of Sandringham’s residence and provides the backdrop for numerous key scenes—from dramatic confrontations to moments set in the French countryside. Explore its ornate rooms, elegant staircases, sweeping grounds, and panoramic views over the River Forth. Return to Edinburgh After a day filled with unforgettable scenery, compelling history, and iconic Outlander settings, relax on the return journey to Edinburgh—perfectly rounding off a magical Scottish adventure.
