Description
After collection from your Edinburgh accommodation, the tour departs the city heading north. The first stop offers views of the Forth bridges, showcasing engineering from three centuries.
Crossing the Queensferry Crossing, the route passes Loch Leven Castle, known for its roles as Robert the Bruce’s refuge and Mary Queen of Scots’ prison.
Arriving in Perthshire, visit Scone Palace and its gardens, the former crowning site of Scottish monarchs and home of the Stone of Destiny. The palace, open from April 1 to October 31, features exotic trees and notable gardens. Entrance tickets are purchased on arrival; no prebooking is needed.
Continuing north through Blairgowrie, the road opens into Highland landscapes en route to the Glenshee Ski area. Depending on time and weather, a chairlift ride may be available.
Stop in Braemar, a Highland town where you can visit the Highland Games Museum or Braemar Castle. Then, travel along the River Dee to Balmoral Castle, the Scottish Royal family’s historic holiday home, open April 1 to August 10, 2026. Explore the gardens and the Castle Ballroom. Entrance tickets are purchased on arrival with no prebooking required.
Time permitting, optional visits near Balmoral include a local distillery and the town of Ballater, with a railway museum linked to Queen Victoria’s visits.
Note the tour runs until December 31. Scone Palace closes October 31. Balmoral Castle is open select days in October to December; please inquire for availability during these months.
