Description

Begin by traveling north from Edinburgh through the farmland of the Kingdom of Fife to Perthshire’s forested hills and mountains. Stop in Dunkeld, a cathedral town on the River Tay, to explore its architecturally significant cathedral and quaint streets.

Pick up provisions for a picnic to enjoy later in the Cairngorms. Continue north past ancient woodlands, Highland glens, and Loch Morlich before reaching the Glenmore Visitor Centre in the Cairngorms.

Meet your experienced mountain leader at Glenmore to start a 5.5-mile (8.8 km) guided hike through Caledonian pine forest. Along the way, admire An Lochan Uaine (the Green Lochan) and look out for local wildlife including ospreys, eagles, and red squirrels. Your guide will share local folklore, history, and geology as you walk to the Allt Mor Forest.

After the hike, head south through Perthshire to the Victorian resort town of Pitlochry, where you have time for a break. Return to Edinburgh via the Kingdom of Fife, crossing the Queensferry Crossing with views of the Forth Rail Bridge, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
