Description
Depart from Edinburgh’s Royal Mile and travel by mini-coach into Scotland’s countryside. Expect a day filled with history, landscapes, and locations featured in Outlander.
Your first stop is Culross, where cobbled lanes and 17th-century buildings offer a glimpse of the fictional Cranesmuir. Next, visit Doune Castle, known as Castle Leoch in the series, featuring a grand hall, towers, and views of the River Teith.
In Linlithgow, explore the ruins of the royal palace, with views over Linlithgow Loch, followed by a lunch break. Then, visit Midhope Castle, the exterior of Jamie Fraser’s family home, Lallybroch. Note that access depends on filming schedules and may be unavailable at times.
The final major stop is Hopetoun House, a Scottish baroque mansion used as the Duke of Sandringham’s residence in Outlander. The house features ornate rooms and grounds overlooking the River Forth. Hopetoun House is closed throughout July 2026; tours then visit Blackness Castle instead, with tickets included.
Return to Edinburgh after a full day of exploring historic and Outlander sites.
