This guided tour departs from Edinburgh and follows East Lothian’s scenic coastal road, visiting historic and natural sites ideal for history enthusiasts and nature lovers.
The first stop is Archerfield Walled Garden, located in the East Lothian countryside. The gardens include extensive grounds, a café, a shop, and a food market. Families will appreciate the woodland Fairy Trail and enclosed play area. Garden enthusiasts and foodies alike will find plenty to enjoy here.
Next, the tour stops briefly at Athelstaneford, the birthplace of the Scottish Flag. This small village offers insight into rural Scottish life and the historic battle between the Picts and the Angles, highlighting King Angus’s vision that inspired the Scottish Saltire.
Preston Mill is the following stop, one of East Lothian’s most atmospheric landmarks. This 18th-century watermill, famous for its red-tiled roof and external waterwheel, provides a glimpse of traditional Scottish milling life. It is also notable as a filming location for the TV series Outlander.
The tour continues to North Berwick, a seaside town with a historic high street and sandy beaches. Visitors can explore cafes and restaurants or visit the Scottish Seabird Centre to learn about local marine life.
