Description
The tour begins at 190 High Street on the Royal Mile, Edinburgh. The first stop is Blackness Castle, a 15th-century fortress that served as the port for Linlithgow and a key artillery fort in the 16th century. Fans may recognize it as Fort William from Outlander. Only the castle exterior is visited.
Next is Midhope Castle, also called Lallybroch, the fictional home of Jamie Fraser. This 16th-century tower house draws many visitors, though entry is not included.
Then, the tour visits Linlithgow Palace, once a royal residence and the birthplace of James V and Mary, Queen of Scots. The palace, which appears as Wentworth Prison in Outlander, sits beside a lake surrounded by meadows and woods.
The village of Doune is next, home to the medieval Doune Castle, a filming location for Monty Python, Game of Thrones, and Outlander. Entrance is not included.
Visitors then explore Culross, a 17th-century village with narrow streets and historic cottages. Outlander fans will recognize several locations, including Claire’s garden. The village offers notable views of the Firth of Forth.
The final stop is Falkland, a 16th-century village in Fife dominated by Falkland Palace with Renaissance architecture and historic gardens. It features several Outlander filming exterior shots. A walk through the village reveals charming cobbled streets and valley views.
The tour concludes with a return to Edinburgh after visiting significant historical and cultural sites featured in Outlander.
