Begin your tour in Dunbar, a coastal town featuring the formidable remnants of Dunbar Castle overlooking the North Sea. This site tells stories of medieval battles and power struggles.
Next, travel to Holy Island, also known as Lindisfarne, to explore the haunting ruins of Lindisfarne Castle and Lindisfarne Priory, significant for their Christian heritage and history of Viking invasions.
The tour continues to Bamburgh Castle, a fortress perched on a rocky outcrop along the Northumberland coastline. Explore its courtyards and regal halls while taking in the coastal views.
Then visit Alnwick Castle (open April to October only), known for its medieval architecture, gardens, and role as a filming location for the Harry Potter films.
The final stop is Galashiels in the Scottish Borders. Though its castle no longer stands, the town reflects its medieval past within a scenic landscape.
Note that Alnwick Castle is closed during winter and not accessible at that time.
