Midlothian Snowsports Centre
Edinburgh
The Midlothian Snowsports Centre, or Hillend as it is commonly known, was once the biggest dry ski slope in Europe. It is the closest ski venue to Edinburgh and has plenty of equipment available for hire. There is something to satisfy every level of ability and because the slopes are artificial you can enjoy snowsports whether it's snow or sunshine all year round.
The Snowsports Centre has a wide selection of facilities available, including skiing and snowboarding, tubing and parties, chairlift rides and lessons..something for everyone!
There is a wide range of lessons for all ages and abilities, with both open and private opportunities to develop your skills. There is no need to splash out on equipment when starting out, as it is all supplied.
You can also have a go at 'Tubing' or even have Tubing parties! ( Seems like bags of fun but it looks like it's something more for the kids...!) The Snow tubes are round inflatable rings with smooth bases, making them perfect for flying down the slope! Both parties and 30-minute sessions are available.
After all the excitement and adrenaline, you can find the Cafe 360 which is situated above the ski lodge. Cafe 360 is great for relaxing with friends or taking that well earned break, serving light bites and teas/coffees. There is a balcony area for those sunny days with great views of the main slope and looking onto the nursery slope so you can keep an eye on the younger snow monsters!
Even if you do not have the confidence to ski from the top, it is well worth taking a trip up in the chairlift , as you get some stunning views looking out over Edinburgh and the Firth of Forth.
