The Meadows
Edinburgh
On a sunny day the Meadows are awash mainly with students from the surrounding University. Great area to have picnic and as it is so large, you and your friends can indulge in many sporting activities.
Once a inland loch named Burch or South Loch, until 1621 this loch provided Edinburgh with most of the water supply. Eventually it was drained, and an act of Parliament prevented Edinburgh’s expansion from encroaching on the now green meadows. Slowly opened to the public (and their livestock!), the meadows became an important training ground for the fledging teams that would later become our proud Hibernian F.C. and Heart of Midlothian F.C.
Come any sun, and the meadows will quickly fill with friends and families, and every spring is marked by the beautiful pink blossoms on the trees. Locals are very proud of our meadows, and we’ve successfully seen off eager developers and politicians alike over the centuries.
