Description
Standing at an elevation of 251 meters above Edinburgh, Arthur's Seat represents the pinnacle of the dormant city volcano. Fear not, for this volcanic giant erupted some 350 million years ago, and now peacefully graces Holyrood Park as a captivating hill. Its 360-degree panoramic view of the city remains as majestic as ever. Various routes lead to Arthur's Seat, and the one you're about to embark upon follows a gradual and manageable path, sparing you from excessive climbing. Begin your journey through Holyrood Park via the Queen's Drive, circling St Margaret's Loch and ascending to St Anthony's Chapel. Proceeding through the Dasses and Piper's Walk, you'll eventually reach the focal point of the tour—Arthur's Seat and the adjacent Crow Hill. The return trail may present a slightly steeper and more challenging descent. However, it offers breathtaking views of Raven's Rock cliffs and Hutton's Section, guiding you along the mesmerizing edge of Salisbury Crags. Descend into a valley, cross Hunter's Bog, exit the park, and decide on your next move: explore the Dynamic Earth museum or unwind at the café within the same building. Before setting foot on the path, ensure you have sturdy walking shoes. While hiking boots are not mandatory, the terrain involves traversing dirt and rock on slopes, requiring a reliable grip. Bring along water and snacks, as the round trip will take approximately two hours, making refreshments essential for an enjoyable journey.
