Discover 1602’s Greyfriars Church (Kirkyard), a UNESCO World Heritage Site as well as the oldest building in the Old Town. Built on the site of an abandoned Franciscan monastery, its name derives from those very same monks. Be sure to hear the legend of the “Bloody” Lord Advocate ghost in the adjoining graveyard. Here you will have the best view of Edinburgh Castle. Built in the 12th century, it is the second most visited building in the UK after the Tower of London. It stands on top of Castle Rock, a basalt rock hill inhabited since the 9th century BC. The first castle was built by King David I of Scotland and it remained a royal residence until 1603.
