There's nothing quite like ice skating outdoors in the crisp, cold air of December. To do so in Edinburgh's city centre is quite a treat. Each holiday season during Edinburgh's Christmas Festival, an ice rink is set up in the Princes Street Gardens, and visitors are invited to bundle up, pull on their skates and glide about beneath the castle. Lovely during the day, it is even better at night as the lights sparkle and the tantalising smells from the German Market waft through the air. Be sure to bundle up, but if you need a little something else to keep you warm, there's always mulled wine available for the sipping!
