Bars & Clubs in Edinburgh

If you want to experience Edinburgh's nightlife the way locals do, you’ll need more than just a list of names. The city’s bars and clubs don't shout for attention,they’re more whispered about, often tucked into old alleyways or above unsuspecting shops. Take the Cowgate if you want atmosphere that shifts as the night goes on, or head to Leith for a more laid-back vibe where you can find some great craft beers.

One of my all-time favourites is The Jazz Bar near the Grassmarket. It’s small, dark, and packed with genuine music lovers. Shows there always feel like you’re part of something. On weekends, if you’re after a dancefloor, Sneaky Pete’s is a must; located just off the Royal Mile, it pulls a mixed crowd and spins everything from indie rock to electronic. Here’s a tip: if you want to dodge the weekend crush, get there just before 11 pm or after 2 am.

Oh, and keep an eye out for the city’s pub quiz nights,they are a proper Edinburgh tradition and a fun way to mingle. Oh, and don’t underestimate how cold it can get with those Edinburgh winds sneaking in while you’re queuing outside clubs! Dress accordingly.
